College
Choosing a college can be a daunting task for a teenager and family. Oftentimes adolescents and their parents do not agree on the timeliness of preparation, reasons for selecting certain schools or how to go about the process. Even for the most accomplished student, the navigational strategies can be overwhelming. With colleges getting more expensive and competitive, families feel increased pressure to make the right college choice. Consultants serve as a student’s personal resource in identifying colleges that fit their individual preferences.
As an educational consultant and trained professional, Lindy Kahn provides individualized counseling to help identify colleges which are a good match for students, in terms of their academic, social, geographic and financial criteria. Each student’s strengths and weaknesses will be evaluated, as well as personal interests, in an attempt to heighten their awareness of possible options.
She can eliminate the anxiety; help organize personal data and materials, keep students on deadline, brainstorm essay ideas, as well as provide comprehensive editing advice. She will enhance their current resume to reflect them in the best possible light. It is her goal to involve students in the search process, thus allowing them the opportunity to make a well informed decision.
Lindy will interface with students through face to face meetings, email correspondence, faxing and telephone conferences. Although she will work primarily with the student, the best outcome is achieved when parents support her efforts and are fully involved.
Lindy provides ongoing consulting guidance throughout the duration of the application process. She spends 20% of her time on the road, meeting with admission officers, touring campuses, and exploring the campus environment. This personal insight provides a student with a much deeper understanding of a college than a catalog or web site can convey. Specialized knowledge of programs tailored for students in visual or performing arts and athletics is also offered.

Additionally, specific programs for students with learning disabilities are presented. For students with diagnosed learning disabilities, Learning Support Programs at colleges or universities typically serve a limited number of students, usually 80-100 each year. Students in the program attend regular college-level courses, are held to the same high standards and complete the same curriculum requirements as all other degree candidates. The faculty at these institutions is dedicated to helping students realize their full potential, utilizing resources they may need and helping them work with professors to obtain appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
